NRCC Rugby Carnival

On Thursday, 2nd May, our U14s and U16s Boys Rugby Teams travelled to Casino to participate in the Northern Rivers Catholic Colleges Rugby League Carnival.

The U14s played Saint Joseph's, Banora, and started the day strongly with a convincing 7 tries to 1 victory. Cooper McLennan scored several tries and Thomas Robb was unearthed as a metre-making machine.
The second game was a tug-of-war battle against Mt St Patrick College Murwillumbah. Unfortunately, the two almost certain tries that MCC squandered cost them the game, going down 2 tries to 1. Zaden Nipperess' kicking game was effective and Finn Brosmann's defence was bruising.
In the last game of the day, McAuley was back to their best against Woodlawn. Navrin Henwood was strong in defence and Owen Mortimer played well. It was a dominating effort by the team winning 5 tries to 2.

The 16's boys faced a challenging group with games against both Woodlawn College and St Joseph's, Banora. Despite losing their first two group games, they showcased their true potential in the 2nd vs 3rd group playoff against St Joseph's.

A stellar first half put them 3-1 ahead. Peter Hammond returned a kick through the centre of the field, carving their defence open. Kai Brosman was a man mountain as he managed to get the ball down while holding off 4 players trying to drag him out, and Beau Edwards timed a kick chase to perfection and could not be chased down. St Joseph's fought back strongly, but Logan Cone sealed the game with a great team try, which put him in the corner. The game finished 4-3 and was a great overall team performance.

Standouts on the day were Cruz Sewell, Xavier Cassidy-Thomason, Jesse Martin, Mason Cone, Beau Edwards and Peter Hammond.

Well done to both teams who exemplified MCC values and represented our College with pride and respect.
